Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his future following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with results like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
