Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
