Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Additional Developments

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.

It said missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
