Individual That Grabbed Ariana Grande at Premiere Banned from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who vaulted across a fence and reached for actress Ariana Grande has been sent away and banned from Singapore.
The individual, aged 26, was sentenced to nine days in prison for being a public nuisance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities stated to local media.
Wen pushed past photographers and rushed toward the celebrity, who was present at the Asian debut for the film on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and celebrity events, including jumping on stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in June this year.
The incident sparked outrage in Singapore, with many saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The singer has mentioned experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her show in the UK city in spring of 2017 took the lives of 22 individuals and injured hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had attempted to intrude on the film's premiere multiple times, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to breach security. Protection personnel intercepted him and held him in place.
He then uploaded videos thanking Grande for permitting his access and said he was "released."
Law enforcement took him into custody the next day and brought charges against him with causing a disturbance, to which the man admitted guilt.
The Court Judge the magistrate was cited by Channel News Asia as remarking that Wen was "attention seeking", commenting that he was wrong to believe he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not commented on the case.
Cynthia Erivo discussed the situation to NBC, stating that she "just wanted to ensure my co-star was safe."
"I'm sure he didn't intend us danger, but you never know with such situations, and I wanted to confirm that she was OK. That was my initial reaction," she commented.
